On July 24, at the Museum of Sacred Art of Macedo de Cavaleiros, the exhibition “Creative Surpluses: New Destinations” was inaugurated. The initiative is the result of a solidarity project that aims to reuse industrial surpluses, through the creation of unique pieces in wood.
Reflecting Mofreita’s commitment to sustainability, creativity and social inclusion, each object exhibited is the result of a collaborative process. The pieces were designed by Art and Design students from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) and produced by CERCIMAC users.
Until September 30th, visit the exhibition at the Museum of Sacred Art and discover the creative potential of this raw material so often wasted.

A Mofreita project in which sustainability, social inclusion and creative education go hand in hand
The Creative Surpluses project is an initiative of Mofreita and was born in the factory itself, whose production generates wood surpluses with high potential for reuse. Instead of wasting them, Mofreita proposes to reuse them, giving rise to pieces with aesthetic, functional and environmental value.
More than a sustainability project, this is an action with a profound social impact. By integrating users of Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS) in the production process, Mofreita promotes the development of their manual and creative skills and encourages their autonomy and integration into society.

In addition, 100% of the revenues obtained from the sale of the pieces revert to the institutions involved, contributing to the continuity and strengthening of their activities.
The creative and design component of the pieces had the partnership of the academic community – in this case, with the students of the IPB. In this way, involving future professionals in the areas of design, architecture and art, practical teaching is valued and the role of creativity in building a more sustainable and inclusive society is reinforced.
